JAPANESE SOLDIERS CROWD RAILROAD STATION. Traveling through the southern home island of Kyushu, these Japanese soldiers wait in the railroad station of Haiki on the outskirts of Sasebo for their train. None of them had arms or swords, and all carried heavy packs. Nor were they cheerful in any respect.
