（原文訳）ハーバード野球チームの皆さん、私は、慶應義塾大学を代表して、我が国、そしてこのグラウンドに皆様をお迎えできましたことを心から嬉しく思います。こうした暑くて、慣れない気候のなかで皆さんがうまく体調を維持できるよう、そして、皆さんが楽しんでくれることを願っております。

ハーバード大学、そして野球チームを代表して、私は、快く招待くださった皆さんと慶応大学に感謝申し上げます。我々にとってとても光栄なことです。私たちは日本を訪問する機会を得たことを喜んでおり、我々はきっと、多くの楽しい思い出と共に帰国することになるでしょう。ここで皆さんに、我が大学のコナント学長の手紙を紹介いたします。
